Couple injured in 2nd Newton shooting in 2 days, Surrey police say
A husband and wife were shot in Surrey's Newton neighbourhood Monday evening, less than 48 hours after another shooting incident nearby.
The Monday incident occurred just before 6 p.m. Around that time, a woman called police saying she and her husband had been shot in the 12600 block of 67B Avenue, according to a news release from the Surrey Police Service.
SPS front-line officers responded to the scene, and the two victims were taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries, police said.
The couple's young child was in their car at the time of the shooting, which took place "outside," according to police. The child was unharmed.
Police said two suspects, who they described as "South Asian men," were seen driving away in a dark-coloured sedan.
Monday's shooting happened roughly two kilometres south of another incident, in which shots were fired outside a home in the 7700 block of 126A Street in the early hours of Sunday morning. No injuries were reported in that shooting.
In an email, police told CTV News "there does not appear to be any connection between the two shootings."
The investigation into Monday's incident is in its early stages, police said, adding that anyone with information should call the SPS at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2024-5300 (SP).
