Several residents of Niton Junction, Alta., have reported seeing Travis Edward Vader, the man identified as a person of interest in the disappearance of Lyle and Marie McCann, as recently as a few days ago.

A number of people from the community, located about 150 kilometres west of Edmonton, told CTV News they recall seeing Vader driving a light green SUV in the area earlier this week.

The McCanns haven't been seen since July 3rd, when the retired couple left home for a vacation in B.C. On July 5th, their motor home was found abandoned and burned near Edson, but the light green Hyundai Tucson SUV they were towing was missing.

It was found near Niton Junction late Friday afternoon. Mounties remain at the location, which they say is a potential crime scene, combing for leads.

Police say Vader is dangerous and may be armed.

"Any sightings of him should be reported to police immediately and he should not be approached," Assistant Commissioner Peter Hourihan said at a news conference.

Vader has no fixed address, and is wanted on unrelated charges. He failed to appear in a Fort Nelson court on July 5 on charges of obstructing a police officer and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

He is described as 6-2 tall, weighing about 220 lbs., with short red hair and hazel eyes. He may have a goatee.

Lyle McCann, 78, and his 77-year-old wife Marie were last seen fueling up at a Superstore gas station. They were supposed to meet up with their daughter on July 10th in B.C., but did not arrive.

The family now welcomes any new leads in the case. So far, the RCMP has received more than 100 tips from the public and has 20 investigators working full-time on the case.

Investigators still want to hear from anyone who may have seen the McCanns' SUV, license plate ZPK 289, between July 5th and July 16th.

Anyone who spotted the SUV, or who knows of Vader's whereabouts, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
