Vancouver police say their investigation into a stabbing in the Downtown Eastside Friday night is stifled by an uncooperative victim.

The 32-year-old man, who is known to police, was stabbed three times in the abdomen at around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Hastings and Columbia streets. He was treated in hospital overnight and released.

"He's fine, but he's completely uncooperative with police and medical staff," Const. Lindsey Houghton said.

The circumstances surrounding the assault remain a mystery, Houghton said.

"We suspect it has something to do with drugs, but we don't know. The victim is not talking; he wants absolutely nothing to do with police."

Police say the suspect is a 5-9 tall man, about 150 lbs. who was wearing a black jacket and hat.
