Surrey saw its third consecutive day of gunfire Monday as a brazen daylight shooting put a man in hospital.
Heavily armed officers swarmed the area of 86A Avenue and 140 Street after several people reported hearing shots fired in the early afternoon.
Mounties found a victim suffering non-life threatening injuries and a dark-coloured BMW that appeared to have had two windows shot out at the scene.
Officers set up road blocks in the area but have yet to locate a suspect, and no descriptive details of the shooter have been released. Investigators said they’re still interviewing witnesses and canvassing the neighbourhood for more information.
The shooting followed two others committed over the weekend, including a targeted incident near Kirkbride Elementary School on Saturday evening.
Mounties said the victim of that shooting, who also suffered non-life threatening injuries, managed to make his own way to Surrey Memorial Hospital.
On Sunday night, several more shots were fired from one car toward another while the vehicles were stopped at 88 Avenue and 132 Street. No injuries were reported.
All told, there have been 31 shootings reported in Surrey so far this year, averaging to roughly one every three days.
Investigators believe most of the shootings are tied to an ongoing drug-related conflict between two new groups.
Anyone with information on any of the shootings is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP detachment at 604-599-0502, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 to remain anonymous.
