Homicide investigators were called to Surrey’s Whalley neighbourhood Monday after a man was found fatally injured in front of an apartment complex.

Mounties received a 911 call about a man down at 132nd Street and 108th Avenue, two blocks from the Gateway SkyTrain Station, and located him around 2:15 p.m.

Paramedics performed CPR at the scene and took him to hospital but it was too late. The case was handed off to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team shortly after.

“Unfortunately this person’s injuries led to their death,” IHIT Sgt. Bari Emam said. “Early to say at this point if this was targeted or related to anything. There’s no obvious indication of anything like that.”

The cause of death is unclear and investigators aren’t sure if the victim suffered his injuries at the scene or a second location.

Despite the lack of confirmed details, Emam said there’s no cause for public alarm.

“It’s just one of those cases where it’ll take some investigation on our part to determine the circumstances,” he said.

Anyone with information on the homicide is asked to call the IHIT tip line at 1-877-551-4448 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
