Police have charged a man seven months after an elderly Korean war vet was killed in a hit and run in Kelowna.
Seventy-eight-year old Arthur Horton was run down by a stolen vehicle and left to die at the side of the road last July 28.
"The community was very much involved in this," RCMP Const. Steve Holmes said of the investigation that led to the arrest of 33-year old Dwayne Munk.
"When it was revealed that the victim was a Korean War veteran, the Legion got involved with a service. A full investigation was launched by the Kelowna RCMP's Central Okanagan Traffic Services and included public appeals for information through the media."
He said help from police in Surrey and Abbotsford, plus public tips, led to the arrest of Munk.
Holmes could not say who those people were or exactly what the roles of the Surrey and Abbotsford police were.
Munk is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, failure to remain at the scene of a collision, theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen property to be laid.
