A 63-year-old man has been charged in connection with a deadly stabbing committed in broad daylight Tuesday in Chilliwack.
The victim, a 49-year-old Chilliwack man whose name hasn’t been released, was killed in a parking lot after a collision between two cars around 3 p.m., the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said Wednesday.
Mounties were called to the scene, where they found and arrested a suspect they allege was carrying a knife.
Gerald Leslie Dolman has since been charged with second-degree murder.
Sgt. Stephanie Ashton said prior to the stabbing, one of the cars was seen following the other down Yale Road.
“Dolman is believed to have struck a cyclist while following the victim. The two cars collided in a parking lot, at which point an altercation led to the death of the victim,” she told reporters.
Police could not confirm how badly the cyclist was hurt.
IHIT is still working to determine what led up to the murder. Few details have been confirmed, but investigators believe the accused and victim knew each other.
Dolman is being held in custody, and has a court appearance scheduled for May 9.
Though a charge has already been laid, Ashton said investigators are still gathering evidence and asked anyone with information to contact them.
