Lost skiers rescued off B.C. mountain
Search and rescue volunteers in B.C.’s Okanagan successfully reunited two skiers with their family Friday evening.
Vernon Search and Rescue, in a social media post, says crews were called to Silver Star Mountain to rescue two lost skiers, who they say are young men from outside Canada.
Rescuers located the pair waiting at the Vernon Snowmobile Association chalet.
“They were found to be safe, dry, uninjured, and were reunited with their thankful family,” the post reads.
“Vernon SAR would like to thank the subjects for keeping calm, activating their SOS alarm on their cellphones when they realized they were lost, and for staying put while waiting for rescue.”
The team reminded nature-goers to be prepared to stay put overnight if problems arise, and to carry the right equipment including GPS communication devices and backup power banks.
