Homicide investigators probing a vehicle fire in Abbotsford, B.C., say the remains of second victim have been discovered inside the wreckage.

Abbotsford police were first called to the vehicle fire on a forest service road at Sumas Mountain Regional Park around 2:45 p.m. on Jan. 3.

Firefighters extinguished the flames and discovered the remains of one person inside the red 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander, police said in a statement following the discovery.

In an update Wednesday, the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team said it confirmed the remains of another victim were found in the burned vehicle.

"Although the circumstances surrounding the deaths are still being examined, we do not believe this was a random incident," Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT said in a statement. "Therefore, there is no ongoing risk to the public."

Investigators say a thorough search of the area was conducted and several park-goers have spoken to police to provide assistance with the investigation.

"The details of this case may be disturbing to some and those who are feeling affected are encouraged to seek support," Fong said. "IHIT victim services is available to anyone in need of assistance."
