Police and the provincial coroner's service are investigating after a 15-year-old boy was struck and killed by a train Sunday in the British Columbia Interior.

The teenage pedestrian was struck shortly after 11 p.m. near the community of Vinsulla, approximately 30 kilometres north of Kamloops, according to police.

The boy has been identified and his family has been notified of his death, a B.C. RCMP spokesperson said Wednesday.

"The death is not believed to be suspicious," Staff Sgt. Kris Clark said in an emailed statement. "Our thoughts are with the family during this tragic time."

The boy's death was at least the second fatal train collision on B.C. tracks in recent days after a woman was struck and killed by a train in Chilliwack.

Police were still working to identify the woman Friday after she was struck early that morning. Authorities do not believe her death was suspicious but the investigation is ongoing, police said.
