Senator Larry Campbell doesn't remember why he didn't call an inquiry into the death of Frank Paul, he told an inquiry on Friday.

Campbell told the inquiry into Frank Paul's death that he advised against an inquest, but was not the investigating coroner on the case, and did not make the final decision.

Campbell was B.C.'s chief coroner in December of 1998, when Paul died of hypothermia after being left by a rookie police officer in an alley in the Downtown Eastside.

Regional coroner Jeanine Robinson testified on Wednesday she asked her boss, Campbell, for a public inquest at the time, but he dismissed the suggestion.

Campbell was Mayor of Vancouver from 2002 to 2005.
