KAMLOOPS, B.C. -- Police are investigating the death of an 83-year-old Kamloops woman after she wandered away from a seniors' home.
Juliette Bombardier was found frozen to death Friday morning outside the Pine Grove care centre.
The company running the home says proper procedures were followed, but they're also launching an investigation. Staff notified police after they realized the woman was missing.
A family friend of Bombardier's told CTV she suffered from Alzheimer's Disease and this wasn't the first time she had wandered outside in recent days. Her family believe Bombardier may have left the building through a door that is often left open for staff to take outside breaks.
"Two days prior, the staff had been apprised by the residents that she'd gotten outside and [she] was outside the same door in the cold. At that time in this area of B.C., the temperatures, like they had across Canada, plunged to record lows," said Richard Wagamese.
"It was snowing and it was very, very nasty weather."
