A 56-year-old man who got injured on the North Shore Mountains Thursday afternoon has been carried to safety on a helicopter long line.

The hiker got separated from his group, fell and injured his ankle around 3 p.m. North Shore Rescue said he was at an elevation of around 700 metres on the Coliseum Mountain Trail in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park.

Ground and helicopter crews were dispatched to the area and managed to get him off the mountain shortly after 6 p.m.

North Shore Rescue said it’s fortunate the operation didn’t require supplies from its nearest emergency cache, which was one of two recently ransacked by thieves.

The team is still in the process of restocking the cache and upgrading its security.

First aid equipment, ropes and camping gear were among the supplies stolen.
