The Insurance Corp. of B.C. has a new boss to replace one who moved on after a scandal over repaired cars.

The Crown-owned auto insurer has hired Jon Schubert, the current president and CEO of Saskatchewan Government Insurance.

ICBC chair T. Richard Turner says Schubert brings more than three decades of experience in the private and public insurance industries and is well positioned to lead the B.C. insurance company.

Schubert will take up his new job in mid-November and replaces Paul Taylor, who resigned in the spring to take a job in the private sector.

His departure came in the midst of a scandal for the corporation, when it was revealed that nearly 100 wrecked cars were rebuilt at an ICBC repair facility in Burnaby and then sold by company employees without disclosing the vehicles' damage history.

ICBC apologized to the buyers and offered to buy the vehicles back or have them inspected, and brought in new rules for employees barring them from dealing in salvaged vehicles.
