West coast residents are likely to feel the ground move again after yesterday's magnitude-6.4 earthquake.

Garry Rogers of the Geological Survey of Canada says there will be hundreds of aftershocks.

He says there's already been at least a half dozen, the largest of them a 4.9 tremor.

Yesterday's quake was centred of the west coast of Vancouver Island. It wobbled buildings in Vancouver and could be felt well into B.C.'s interior.

It caused no major damage or injuries.

But experts say the West Coast is overdue for a much bigger quake. Heather Lyle, who runs B.C.'s provincial earthquake drills, says people should view the event as a wake-up call.

Lyle is hoping hundreds of thousands of people will participate in the next earthquake drill, in October.
