A woman's partially-decomposed remains were found in a wooded area of Prince George Friday night, and Mounties say they are treating the death as suspicious.
Plain-clothes officers discovered the remains while patrolling near LC Gunn Park, an area allegedly frequented by sex trade workers, with a police dog.
Cpl. Dan Moskaluk said police have not yet established the identity, age or even ethnicity of the deceased.
"We are dealing with human remains with a degree of decomposition and not skeletal remains, therefore a complete forensic examination … is needed to conclusively determine these facts," Moskaluk said in a release.
An autopsy is expected early this week.
Moskaluk said local Mounties have been making extra patrols in the wake of a number of missing persons reports, and to "establish a public outreach with those who are more vulnerable persons in our community."
Investigator remained on the scene on Sunday morning.
The RCMP may bring in trained volunteers from Prince George Search and Rescue to assist in a grid search of the area.
Anyone with information on this incident or any outstanding missing persons file is asked to contact the Prince George RCMP at 250-861-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
