Homeless residents are planning a march Monday afternoon on Surrey City Hall to protest what they say is the theft of their belongings.

Members of the group are angry that their tents and other belongings are confiscated if they are left in an area known as “The Strip," on 135A Street near 106 Street, in the Whalley neighbourhood.

According to protesters, RCMP, Surrey bylaw officers and city workers come to “The Strip” daily and confiscate items of residents who may have left for a day job, act too slowly or defend themselves too assertively after being ordered to move along.

The protesters hope the 3 p.m. demonstration will encourage the city to stop scooping up and destroying their few possessions.
