Four young men are facing a slew of charges in connection with a brazen kidnap attampt in an upscale Vancouver neighbourhood on Tuesday evening.

The kidnap bid was thwarted when police intercepted four masked men running from the rear of a house near Granville Street and West 52nd Avenue after getting a call about a suspicious vehicle just before 6 p.m.

Two of the four men were arrested immediately, and the other two, who attempted to run from the scene, were tracked by a helicopter and police dogs and arrested nearby.

"I can tell you now that this was in fact a thwarted kidnapping,'' said VPD spokesperson Const. Jana McGuinness. "The residents or occupants of the home - a 75 year old woman and 39 year old woman fortunately were uninjured although [it was] a very traumatic event for them," McGuinness said.

A 27-year-old man from Burnaby/> and three teenagers from Richmond/>/> are facing several charges that include kidnapping and weapons offences. All four are known to police.

The masked men's motive is still unclear. But since the home is value at just over $2 million, police suspect they were after money.

Police are now commending a quick-thinking neighbour, who noticed a suspicous vehicle and called 911. It wasn't the first time that the vehicle was spotted in the neighbourhood.

"We could ask for nothing more, that people would do that same thing, call in suspicious vehicles, plate numbers, any activity in the neighbourhood that seems out of place to you,'' said McGuinness.

Neighbours told CTV News the residents keep to themselves in the lavish home, which was last purchased in 1993 for $835,000.
