ELKFORD, B.C. - Emergency officials have downgraded flooding advisories for some areas of B.C.'s Rocky Mountains and rescinded an evacuation for community in the province's southeast.
Parts of B.C. have been affected by the same heavy rains that caused catastrophic flooding in Alberta, with states of emergencies in several communities in British Columbia.
The Regional District of East Kootenay has lifted an evacuation order for Hosmer, near Fernie, which had been under a state of emergency due to flooding.
The flood warning for Elk River in the Fernie area has been downgraded to a flood watch, while high streamflow advisories have been lifted along the Upper Columbia, Lower Columbia and Kootenay rivers.
A notice posted to the province's emergency website says water levels along the Elk River peaked on Friday and is now receding, as are levels on the Kicking Horse, Kootenay, Lower Columbia, and Upper Columbia rivers.
