Fire crews were dispatched to an industrial area of Surrey Thursday afternoon after a fast-spreading blaze broke out at a plastics manufacturer.

Few details have been confirmed, but the fire started at Mansonville Plastics on 56 Avenue, near the Langley border.

Josh Erhardt said someone was using a hot wire cutter on Styrofoam blocks when the materials suddenly caught fire.

“It was crazy,” he said. “Probably $60,000 worth of Sytrofoam up in flames. It was too much, I was just shaking.”

One woman tried to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher, but the flames were spreading too fast.

Erhardt, who told CTV News he’s only been working at the plant for a couple weeks, said it didn’t appear anyone was hurt.

“Luckily, the area where our lockers are is untouched. My [first] paycheque is still up there,” he said.
