The anti-HST campaign grabbed signatures of 15 per cent of registered voters in nine ridings over the weekend, meaning only five of B.C.'s 85 ridings are needed in order to force the provincial government to reconsider the harmonized sales tax.

The remaining ridings include four in Vancouver and one in Richmond. Fight HST leader Chris Delaney told ctvbc.ca he believes the campaign will definitely gather 15 per cent of registered voter signatures in these ridings by the weekend.

The Fight HST petition has gathered more than 620,000 signatures so far. Less than 1,000 signatures are needed between the remaining ridings.

Delaney says accusations calling the anti-HST petition illegal are bogus.

"That's a bit of a red herring because the lawyers at Elections BC vetted the petition and the legislation attached to it," he said.

Delaney says he expects to submit the petition before June 30 instead of the previous target date of July 5.
