A neighbourhood in Coquitlam, B.C., was kept on edge for most of Friday while a family of black bears camped out in local backyards.

The mother bear and two cubs roamed through backyards, climbing trees and stopping for the occasional snooze.

Local residents called conservation officers, but had to wait hours before they finally arrived.

When they showed up, the conservation officers ruled that the best option for dealing with the fuzzy intruders was to tranquilize them. One of the cubs became stuck in a tree after it was sedated and crowds watched as a truck with a crane came in to bring the young animal down.
