The B.C. Liberal government will not recall the legislature for a fall sitting.

Government sources confirm the decision not to recall the legislature until February, with the introduction of a throne speech followed by the provincial budget, ahead of a provincial election set for May.

Liberal house leader Mike de Jong says there is no need for an additional session to deal with any extraordinary legislation, even though the Liberals are under attack over their controversial carbon tax.

The Opposition New Democrats have been calling for a fall session to debate the carbon tax and pay raises granted to some high-level bureaucrats.

B.C. Premier Gordon Campbell also has yet to announce the dates for by-elections in two Vancouver ridings left vacant after former New Democrat Gregor Robertson quit to run for the mayor of Vancouver and Liberal Lorne Mayencourt decided to seek a Conservative nomination for the current federal election race.
