A West Vancouver, B.C., dog owner is distraught after her beloved Pomeranian was apparently stolen by someone impersonating a dog walker.

Sunday at 1:30 p.m. someone came to the elderly owner's door claiming to be a volunteer and asked to take her dog Simba for a walk.

Her daughter-in-law says the person knew the dog's name, and other personal information.

"She said to us she would be taking Simba for 20 minutes and it would be a trial walk," says Mirna. "But 15 minutes after she left we got a call from a payphone saying she let the dog off the leash and the dog took off."

The dog hasn't been seen since.

Volunteers from animal organizations often help out Simba's elderly owner by walking the dog at Ambleside Park in West Vancouver.

The dognapping has been reported to police, the SPCA and other animal organizations.

The two-and-a-half year old pooch has a lion cut and was wearing a blue harness when last seen.

The owner is offering a reward and anyone with information is asked to call North Vancouver RCMP.
