An elderly man is dead after being struck by a car in Vancouver's West End.
The 79-year-old victim was hit by a car in the intersection of Denman and Nelson shortly after 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
The senior suffered a serious head injury and died after being transported to hospital, says Vancouver Police Const. Jana McGuinness.
The 57-year-old driver is cooperating with police. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash.
Police say drivers need to exercise extreme caution in low visibility weather by slowing down and watching carefully for pedestrians.
This is Vancouver's 13th traffic fatality of 2009.
