A 23-year-old man wanted on Canada-wide warrants in connection with an Edmonton murder has surrendered to Vancouver police.
Justin Sandquist turned himself in on Sunday, about two weeks after 25-year-old Aaron Cote was fatally stabbed in the parking lot of a Travelodge hotel.
Homicide investigators from the Edmonton Police Service flew to Vancouver and will be interviewing the suspect, who is known to police, before he’s returned to Alberta.
Sandquist faces charges of first-degree murder, weapon possession and criminal hit-and-run.
Police allege the suspect struck a friend of Cote’s with a white Ford truck outside a strip club on Dec. 18, causing damage to the vehicle.
Investigators believe Sandquist then chased Cote and his friends to the Travelodge, exited the truck and stabbed the young man.
Cote, a Saskatchewan resident, was found with severe wounds and taken to hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
