Every Friday, Lynda Steele dips into the viewer mailbag to answer your questions. This week, Steele on Your Side looks at an EBay security breach and getting your money’s worth at parking meters.

EBay password changes

Margaret wrote CTV News after getting an email from EBay asking her to change her password. She wants to know if the email is legit.

In this case, it is.  EBay is urging its millions of users around the world to change their passwords immediately. But to be safe, don’t change your password through any links in email. Instead, go directly to the EBay website.

The online auction site was hit by a cyber-attack between late February and early March. A database was hacked into that contained client emails, addresses and birthdates.

But the company insists there's no evidence of unauthorized access to credit card or financial information.

Payment at parking meters

John wrote Steele on Your Side after paying at a city parking meter. He put in a loonie and 10 minutes appeared on the meter. Then he put in a quarter and only received two minutes. He says mathematically speaking; he should have received two and a half minutes and wants to know if the meters include seconds.

The City of Vancouver says meters don't typically display the seconds, but will include seconds as it counts down. So if you put in a quarter, it will only show two minutes, but it will not expire until it actually counts down two minutes and 30 seconds.

The city has a map of all downtown parking meters and their rates online. Click here for more information.
