There will be no charges laid against an elderly B.C. man who killed six people when he drove his pickup truck into a wedding procession last year.

Abbotsford police say their investigation of the incident that occurred nearly a year ago found the driver's actions did not constitute an offence and recommended no charges -- an opinion shared by the Crown.

In addition to the six people killed, 19 others were injured when 71-year-old Bachittar Singh Brar drove through the large, candle-lit group.

The procession was parading up a dimly lit country road in the community east of Vancouver August 24 last year.

Police say there was no evidence that alcohol, fatigue or any medical condition played a role in the crash.

They looked at the speed and mechanical condition of the truck, as well as the weather and road conditions.

Victims and families of the dead have filed a series of lawsuits against Brar, his son and the city of Abbotsford, which is responsible for the road.

In his statement of defense, Brar said it was the wedding party members who were negligent as they walked along the road in the dark.
