Pacific Coliseum

Disney On Ice presents Disney•Pixar's Toy Story 3 is so spectacular it even has Ken calling it "Far Out!" Not only is the show filled with your favourite Toy Story characters from the blockbuster animated movies, it also features incredible 3-D technology and a world-class group of skaters that will delight audience members from age zero to one hundred when it stops in Vancouver for eight shows from November 23 – 27, 2011.

Disney On Ice presents Disney•Pixar's Toy Story 3 is like no other Disney On Ice production you have seen before. Director Patty Vincent, a former skater with Disney On Ice is thrilled to bring new characters and a new vision to ice for the very first time in Vancouver. "The audience should expect to see some brand new characters that we're bringing to the ice; Lots-o'- Huggin' Bear, Ken and Barbie," says Vincent. "Andy's all grown up in this show, which is really cool. And we're using state-of-the art projection technology that we've never done on ice before." The innovative 3-D technology that allows audiences to shrink down to toy size is just one of the features that makes this production so unique.

One of the most exciting aspects for British Columbia audiences is that one of the lead skaters in the production is a local resident. Originally from Kelowna, B.C., Robbie Harris who plays the heroic Buzz Lightyear in the show, will have audiences shouting "To Infinity and Beyond," when he gets on the ice in his hometown. Robbie joined Feld Entertainment in 2008 and is thrilled to take the role of Buzz Lightyear to Vancouver and beyond.

New characters abound in this production which combines all three Toy Story movies for maximum toy fun. Lots-o'-Huggin' Bear makes his debut as does a giant dump truck and claw. Ken and Barbie meet for the first time with magical results. In fact, Choreographer Cindy Stuart says Barbie is her new favourite character in this production and the 80's music she works out to is sure to be a hit with audience members who remember dancing along to Cindy Lauper in hot pink leggings and scrunchies to hold up side pony tails. "We do a whole production number of Barbie chorus girls getting fit," says Stuart. "It's kind of an 80's style workout and we have great music; ‘Girls Just Want to Have Fun' and ‘We've Got the Beat' by the Go-Go's!". This production number features synchronized skating where girls will be lifting other girls. These lifts were only developed a few years ago and are a new feature for a Disney On Ice show. Although Barbie is the quintessential female, she shows her toughness not only in these lifts but also later in the show when she stands up to soul-mate Ken and supports her old friends from Andy's toybox. From Andy's Room, to the Pizza Planet in Act One and a Dream World to the Trash Incinertaor in Act Two, the sets in Disney On Ice presents Disney•Pixar's Toy Story 3 are intergral to the audience feeling like they are a part of the show. Scenic Designer Joe Stewart, an award winning designer who has won both Daytime and Primetime Emmys throughout his illustrious career is responsible for creating a space where the audience becomes a part of the toy world.

"For the audiences I think the scale of the set will be amusing, fun and exciting because you don't get a chance to see things like how big a marble or a football is from a toy's perspective," says Stewart. "And I think children will be amazed by the giantness of the toys, and that they do have a three-dimensional quality to them."

The costumes from Disney On Ice presents Disney•Pixar's Toy Story 3 add to the visual effects created by the 3-D effects and set design. Costume Designer Scott Lane has built unique costumes that capture the plastic, molded look of real toys – as well as sparkly outfits and ascots for the more colourful characters. From 22 identical green army men costumes, to the wide spectrum of toys that don Western apparel in Woody's Roundup, Lane has created a plethora of eye-catching designs. "The audience can expect to see a lot of color, a lot of fun textures, and a lot of goofy playoffs of traditional western wear," describes Lane. For Ken's big fashion show number, Lane created all sorts of crazy delights. "[Ken's] got his Kung Fu Fighting outfit. He's got a disco tux with about a thousand rhinestones all over it. He's got this great 80s boom box look with wild pants and suspenders…He's got some hysterical stuff; it's going to be a lot of fun."

Lighting designer Alex Reardon helps bring the whole production together with his lighting, ensuring the scaling of the toys and the 3-D effects are optimized while helping create emotion and set the tone of the show. He uses black light combined with lighting from the floor to help increase the drama when the Aliens appear. He lights from the floor and backlights the toys when they are at Sunnyside Daycare to create a sense of excitement.

The Chairman and CEO of Feld Entertainment, Inc., Kenneth Feld has overseen many spectacular productions including the Disney On Ice presents Disney•Pixar's Toy Story 3. "Disney On Ice is really a unique form of family entertainment," says Feld. "It is storytelling in a new way. Disney On Ice actually brings the Disney magic to people all over the world, right in their hometown."
