An autopsy is scheduled in Victoria, B.C. to learn more about a badly decomposed body found at a beach in Colwood last week.

Two people out for a walk discovered the body in the surf just off the shore of an area referred to as Esquimalt Lagoon Dec. 30.

The body is largely decomposed, and police believe it had been in the water for some time.

There was no identification on the body, and while the clothing suggested it was a male, that can't be immediately confirmed because of the extent of the decomposition.

An autopsy will be done by the B.C. Coroner's Office at Royal Jubilee Hospital to try to determine the cause of death, and to identify the body.
