A Vancouver dog trainer is on a desperate search to find her own beloved pooch after it was snatched from her business.
Roxy, an 11-year-old pug, was taken from the yard of Downtown Dogs on Kingsway Thursday morning by a woman described by witnesses as very intoxicated.
"I realized she had gotten out and then she was gone. I'm heartbroken. She is a part of my family. I'm just so worried," Christine Reynard told ctvbca.ca, breaking into tears.
The senior pug, who is hard of hearing and requires daily medication for her eyes, goes to work with Reynard every day, and can often be seen perched on a comfy pillow in the office.
Police believe Roxy is with a woman who was seen in several nearby businesses shortly after the disappearance asking for food and supplies for the dog she was carrying. A search of the area by police and Downtown Dogs staff was unsuccessful.
Reynard is spending the day canvassing the neighbourhood in hopes that someone knows what happened to Roxy.
She is offering a $500 reward for her dog's safe return.
"We know that she's with someone," Reynard said.
"This woman was asking for dog food and a leash, so she must have a heart. And if her heart was big enough maybe she would think about bringing my dog back."
Anyone with information about the missing dog or the woman is asked to call the Vancouver Police non-emergency line at 604-717-3321.
