Darcy Wintonyk is a reporter and editor for CTV British Columbia online.
The Ontario native joined the station in 2005 shortly after moving to Vancouver to complete a Master's degree in Journalism from the University of British Columbia. Her thesis, which explored problems with media access at Transport Canada, was the subject of a 2006 Canadian Association of Journalism feature and editorial.
Since joining CTV News, Darcy has worked in almost every job in the newsroom, from broadcast writing to chase producing and field producing weather and news segments for CTV News at Six. She also spent time producing consumer features for Olsen on your Side.
Darcy took home a 2005 Jack Webster Award for health reporting for "Teen Hearing," a feature exploring the dangers of using portable music devices.
Her passion for storytelling, innovation and online news pushed her to take on the role of reporter for CTV's online platform.
Her stories on the massive 2008 Sea-to-Sky rockslide helped the website nab a coveted International RTNDA Edward R Murrow Award for Best Breaking News in 2009.
In spring 2010, Darcy spent almost three weeks travelling through east Africa interviewing former child soldiers and child mothers as part of a Jack Webster "Seeing the World Through New Eyes" Fellowship honouring young journalists.
Her Africa coverage was shortlisted for a national Beyond Borders Media Award in fall 2010.
