An all-party legislative committee could announce today if it has decided to ask Auditor General John Doyle to stay at his post for another two years.
Committee chairman, Vernon MLA Eric Foster, says members meet for another closed session today as they consider proposed changes that would add another two years to the financial watchdog's term.
Foster says he likes the premier's proposal to lengthen an auditor general's appointment to eight years from six, but restrict the appointment to a single term -- he says the plan removes political considerations linked to the office.
Foster and other Liberal members of his committee are under fire for deciding not to reappoint Doyle for a second term -- with critics claiming Doyle is being punished for criticizing the Liberal government.
