Police in Chilliwack, B.C., are searching for a masked man who they believe tried to kidnap an 11-year-old girl Wednesday afternoon.

The girl told police that she was walking home from school around 1 p.m. on Fairview Drive when a man came up behind her, grabbed her arm, and told her, "Shut up and don't move."

She was able to escape his grasp and run home. Police were called later that afternoon.

The victim described her would-be abductor as about 5-4 tall, with a large potbelly and deep scratchy voice, and wearing a mask featuring a large false nose, a grey sweat suit and a straw hat.

Const. Angelina Bowen told ctvbc.ca that police are now looking for any other witnesses to the attempted abduction.

"We're hoping that if anybody saw this person, they could come forward."

Anyone who might have witnessed the incident can call Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
