The names and ages of 24 suspected Stanley Cup rioters have been made public after Crown counsel approved the first wave of charges associated with the violent mayhem of June 15.
The accused face a combined 61 charges, including three counts of arson, one count of assault, 19 counts of mischief and 13 counts of break and enter. Each suspect has also been charged with participating in a riot.
Insp. Les Yeo, head of the Vancouver police Integrated Riot Investigation Team, issued a statement Wednesday saying the force is "very encouraged" by the development.
"We will continue to work closely with the special prosecution team as even more charges are expected in the coming days and weeks," Yeo said.
Yeo praised prosecutors for their quick work sorting through the 163 charges police recommended at the end of October, noting that the report on each suspected rioter was more than 500 pages long.

An unnamed 17-year-old from Surrey charged with break and enter and participating in a riot is also among the accused.
One of the suspects -- Timothy Kwong -- apologized for his actions and resigned from his job in June.
"I'm turning myself in. I apologize to the City of Vancouver and this province for my actions and hope that this province/city will forgive me for what I have done," he wrote on his Facebook wall.
CTV News video from the night of the riot shows Kwong kneeling beside an overturned truck. As he walks away, the vehicle can be seen bursting into flames.
On Oct. 31, the Vancouver Police Department announced charges were being recommended against 50 men and 10 women. Crown counsel spokesman Neil MacKenzie says prosecutors are still reviewing the recommendations against the other 35.
Investigators have said that as many as 700 people could ultimately face charges, and that the investigation could take up to two years to complete.
