NEW YORK - Vancouver Canucks centre Henrik Sedin, Phoenix Coyotes goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov and Chicago Blackhawks right-winger Patrick Kane are the NHL's Three Stars for the month of December.
The NHL also named forwards Jamie Langenbrunner of the New Jersey Devils and Loui Eriksson of the Dallas Stars, along with goalie Mike Smith of the Tampa Bay Lightning, its stars of the week Monday.
Sedin led all scorers last month with 25 points (five goals, 20 assists) in 15 games, helping the Canucks go 10-4-1 and move into contention for the Northwest Division lead. He recorded points in all but one of his games.
Bryzgalov posted an 8-2-3 record with a 1.82 goals-against average, .939 save percentage and two shutouts. He allowed two or fewer goals in 10 of 13 starts, highlighted by a season-high 37 saves in a 2-1 win over San Jose on Dec. 12.
Kane led the Blackhawks with 20 points (eight goals, 12 assists) as they posted an 11-4-0 record. He recorded points in 13 of 15 games.
Langenbrunner was named first star of the week after registering six points (five goals, one assist) in helping the Devils win three of four games last week. He was also named a member of the U.S. Olympic hockey team.
Smith earned the second star after stopping 89-of-93 shots in posting a 2-0-1 record for Tampa Bay. He also had a 1.31 goals-against average and .957 save percentage.
Eriksson was named the third star after scoring five goals in helping the Stars win two of three contests. He also earned his first career selection to the Swedish Olympic team.
