Two brothers are facing charges in connection with an early morning street racing crash in Burnaby last April that killed a friend of one of the accused.

Police say Jason David Carter, 38, was the driver of a black Ford Mustang that raced down Canada Way and collided with a red Corvette driven by his 31-year-old brother Clinton Frederick Carter on Wayburn Drive.

Jason Carter's passenger and friend, 35-year-old Lyle Hebblethwaite, died in the crash.

The two brothers have been charged with criminal negligence causing death while street racing, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death while street racing.

Jason Carter also faces two impaired driving charges.

The charges both brothers face are relatively new charges, made law in 2006 to give police new tools to deal with alleged street racers.
