Police in Bosnia said Wednesday they are investigating claims by a local animal group that a girl threw six newborn puppies into a river, drowning them.
The video, which has now been watched by tens of thousands of people online, shows a blonde teenager in a red sweatshirt casually lifting the puppies one by one out of a bucket and chucking them into the fast-moving water.
Several of the puppies can be heard crying and squealing as they are thrown. The girl yells "wheeeee" as she tosses a small pup over her head.
Velimir Ivanisevic from the Association of Citizens for Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals SOS, told The Associated Press that his group received an email that allegedly identifies her as a teenager from the central Bosnian town of Bugojno.
Ivanisevic said the girl's brother filmed the video.
"It is a mirror of society and the fact that young people are doing such things shows how they have been raised," he said.
The video was removed from YouTube, but has been embedded on a number of other online sites.
This video surfaced only days after viral video emerged from Britain showing a middle-aged woman dumping a cat into a trash bin outside a suburban home.
The 45-year-old looks from side-to-side before picking up the cat, Lola, by the scruff of its neck and tossing it into the green garbage bin.
The woman has since apologized to the cat's owners.
