Days after the Saskatchewan Roughriders bought a taunting billboard in downtown Vancouver, the BC Lions have guaranteed fans they’ll put the team in their place.
Lions president Dennis Skulsky said if his team doesn’t beat the Roughriders on Sunday, attendees can take in one of the remaining regular season home games for free.
Skulsky said it was only right to respond after the Roughriders “challenged this community.”
“They have purchased billboards promoting their team and they’re hosting a ‘Rider fan party and rally in our backyard,” he said in a statement.
“We’re here to proudly represent this city and this province. The best way to do that is to win on Sunday and we guarantee that will happen.”
The guarantee is the first one made in the team’s 61 season history.
Earlier this week, the Roughriders ruffled feathers with a billboard near BC Place featuring a woman in a green dress with the team’s logo.
The ad reads “Green is the new orange” over the Roughriders’ website address.
If the Lions lose on Sunday, which starts at 4 p.m., fans in attendance will be entitled to another ticket of equal value. There are four home games left in the season.
