The BC Liberals are being accused of taking campaign sign turf wars to a new low.
Lawn signs for Liberal incumbent Jane Thornthwaite have been placed just inches away from her NDP opponent Jim Hanson’s in the North Vancouver-Seymour riding, blocking them from sight on both sides.
“All candidates should be able to advertise without petty interference like this,” said NDP campaign manager Steve Stringfellow. “I think it shows something about the style of campaign they’re engaging in.”
Stringfellow said he called the Liberals to establish sign etiquette, to no avail.
The NDP says the Liberals have taken up the tactic because the riding isn’t the same Liberal stronghold it used to be.
Thornthwaite’s campaign manager told CTV News that sign volunteers are following all municipal and provincial guidelines, and that the accusations are a distraction.
