The B.C. government has ordered a review of BC Ferries and TransLink, the company that operates transit in Metro Vancouver, to make sure travellers are getting the biggest bang for their buck.
Transportation Minister Shirley Bond says it's been six years since BC Ferries became private and two years since TransLink was overhauled and it's time to ensure sure both organizations are meeting their financial and service aims.
The review will be conducted by Comptroller General Cheryl Wenezenki-Yolland, who is expected to hand in her report by the end of September.
She will examine operating costs, as well as the companies' efforts to reduce those costs and increase productivity and the quality of customer service.
The review will also look at the division of responsibility between the province and the agencies, the regulations the companies operate under and the compensation for the boards of directors
Bond says the report will be made public and some of the recommendations may identify other areas needing more study.
