2 dead after car crash in Burnaby
Two people were killed in a car crash in Burnaby early Saturday morning, police confirmed.
The Burnaby RCMP told CTV News a vehicle travelling north on Boundary Road struck another travelling west on Forest Street around 4:50 a.m.
“Life saving measures were attempted on the occupants of the vehicle that was struck, however, they have both been pronounced deceased,” Mounties wrote.
The driver in the other vehicle was taken to hospital with injuries police said are not life-threatening.
Northbound lanes of Boundary Road were shut down for an investigation by the detachment’s criminal collision team and remained so for several hours.
In an afternoon update, police said they haven’t confirmed “all contributing factors” in the crash.
“Road safety is a responsibility that belongs to everyone that shares the road. In the dark and wet months of winter, visibility is low and road conditions are not ideal,” said Chief Supt. Graham de la Gorgendiere, officer in charge of the Burnaby RCMP in a news release.
“In the past two weeks alone, we have had three significant motor vehicle collisions that have resulted in life altering injuries and/or death,” he continued. “Our road safety unit has also taken a significant number of impaired drivers off the road. If we all do our part by slowing down and driving with care we all should get home safely.”
The detachment asked anyone with dash camera video to call 604-646-9999 and reference police file number 2024-44092.
