B.C. authorities have reopened the Coquihalla and parts of Highway 1 after severe winter weather and avalanche danger forced the closures of multiple sections of roads Wednesday.
The Ministry of Transportation's DriveBC website reports the Coquihalla Highway has reopened between Hope and Merritt after being closed due to a high avalanche hazard.
The Trans-Canada Highway near the communities of Yale and Lytton has also reopened after a collision and vehicle incident shut down the route earlier Wednesday.
DriveBC is reporting slushy sections of road between Hope and Yale on Highway 1.
A high avalanche hazard has shut down Highway 1 east of Yale, but detours are available via Highway 8 and the Coquihalla.
The section of Highway is estimated to reopen between 4 and 6 p.m., according to DriveBC.
The road closures were made as Environment Canada issued snowfall warnings across southern B.C. overnight Wednesday, noting accumulations were expected to surpass 20 centimetres in some areas.
Authorities have closed the Trans-Canada Highway west of Revelstoke and inside Glacier National Park because of avalanche-control measures.
No detours are available for most of the closures, according to DriveBC. View live webcams of road conditions on DriveBC's website.
