A man currently awaiting trial for the murder of two women in B.C.'s Fraser Valley has been charged in connection with a third homicide.

Davey Mato Butorac, 31, of Aldergrove is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Margaret Redford almost four years ago.

The 47-year-old grandmother was found floating face down in Bertrand Creek in Aldergrove in May 2006.

Butorac is currently in police custody for the murder of two sex trade workers.

In January 2008, he was charged in the murders of Sheryl Lynn Koroll, 50, of Langley, and 46-year-old Gwendolyn Jo Lawton of Abbotsford.

Both women were believed to be involved in drugs and prostitution. Lawton's body was found on a gravel road, while Korroll's body was discovered by workers in an industrial area near Langley.

Police said the victims were targeted because "their killer saw an opportunity to take advantage of their vulnerable lifestyles.''

Investigators linked Butorac to the women through DNA evidence.

Cpl. Dale Carr of the B.C. Integrated Homicide Investigation Team, an area resident, said he hopes laying a charge in Redford's murder will put to rest longstanding fears in the community.

"I am approached and asked about this investigation by a variety of people in the community on a regular basis," he said in a statement released to media Wednesday.

"I am very pleased to be able to tell the community that a charge has been laid. Perhaps they can have a sense of relief now that they know someone is being held accountable for Margaret's murder."

Butorac's trial is expected to begin in May. He will be tried separately for Redford's murder.
