The B.C. government is returning to the legislature for a three-day, pre-Olympics political warm-up that includes a throne speech.

The speech traditionally lays out the political agenda for the coming months, but political pundits speculate Tuesday's version will be light on policy initiatives.

University of Victoria political scientist Dennis Pilon says the Liberals will cheer on the Olympics this week in the legislature, while leaving the politics to next month.

On March 2, days after the Games, the Liberals will table their budget, which is forecast to contain a deficit of $1.7 billion and is likely to point to further budget cuts and signs of economic rebound.

Opposition New Democrat Leader Carole James says she will look for signs the government is beginning to respond to the economic hardships facing many British Columbians.

James, who bought her own tickets to attend Olympic curling events, the closing ceremonies and the opening ceremonies for the Paralympics, says she expects the Liberals to accuse the NDP of being Games bashers when they question the government.
