A nine-year veteran of the Kamloops, B.C., RCMP could face impaired driving charges after flipping his car in a crash over the weekend.
The 29-year-old officer was found in an upside-down vehicle in the 1900-block Lodgepole Drive around 1 a.m. on Saturday. He was off duty at the time and driving a personal car.
According to an initial police investigation, the driver apparently veered off the road and into the protection poles surrounding a hydro box.
Police are recommending charges of impaired driving and driving with a blood alcohol level above .08.
The officer has been reassigned to administrative duties while the criminal investigation is underway. An internal RCMP code of conduct investigation will also be launched.
The first court appearance for the officer has been scheduled for April 26.
