A B.C. woman says she has no idea how the ashes of her mother-in-law ended up being left behind at a bar in Toronto.

An urn containing the remains of Doris Budge, who died nearly 10 years ago in Vancouver, were discovered sometime Thursday at a drinking establishment in Ontario's capital city.

Speaking to ctvbc.ca from her home in Victoria, Anne Budge said she thought her mother-in-law's ashes were at a Vancouver crematorium on display.

"They were supposed to be put in a special place, on a wall at the crematorium. It has a spot beside where her husband will be when he dies."

Doris Budge's husband lives at a nursing home in Vancouver. Anne Budge suggests someone may have removed the urn from the facility.

"It's just bizarre," she said.

The Toronto Police Service issued a plea for help from the public to help get the urn back to its rightful resting place shortly after the discovery.

Detective Const. Jeff Duarte said the remains will be held by the Toronto coroner's office until someone comes forward to claim them.
