Three young men had their high-end vehicles impounded and drivers licences suspended after they were caught allegedly street racing on Highway 1 in Chilliwack, B.C. Saturday, according to police.
Police said they responded to reports of four vehicles travelling at more than 130 kilometres an hour at around 4 p.m. on the highway near No. 3 Road.
Witnesses said the vehicles, including a 2013 Audi S5, a 2013 Range Rover Sport and a 2011 BMW 328i, were passing other drivers on the shoulder of the highway and weaving in and out of traffic.
Three of the four vehicles were trying to block traffic from passing by driving slowly, Sgt. Peter Thiessen said in a release.
“Racing drivers will work together to prevent other traffic from passing to allow the racing vehicles a clear area to gain high rates of speed,” the release said.
Police said two of the vehicles were pulled over by officers and shortly after the third vehicle returned to the area.
Three men between the ages of 19 and 20 years old, all residents of Richmond, were charged with driving without reasonable consideration, which carries a fine of $196.
The three men also had their licences suspended for 15 days, and could face additional suspensions.
One driver had a valid B.C. class five licence, while the other two held drivers licences from China, which were valid in the province while the men attended school.
