Two snowmobilers were caught in an avalanche late Tuesday afternoon near Whistler, B.C., leaving one of them with unknown injuries.

The avalanche hit at around 4 p.m. in an area known as the Chocolate Bowl, located near the site of the 2010 Winter Olympic cross country and ski jump venue.

One of the snowmobilers was buried and had to be dug out, and there are unconfirmed reports the victim was unconscious and not breathing when uncovered.

It is unclear what triggered the avalanche.
