Two teens from Port Alberni, B.C., are facing charges after allegedly ransacking a local school and causing an estimated $50,000 in damage.

Mounties responded to a security alarm at A.W. Neill Middle School shortly after 10 p.m. Friday. Outside, they found a pair of bicycles parked near two entry doors, whose windows had been smashed in.

Sgt. Kevin Murray said officers entered the building to find two suspects "continuing to wreak havoc" inside.

"There were a number of windows and display cases smashed, there was paint just thrown around, a fire extinguisher was discharged throughout a classroom," he said.

Extensive damage was done to electronic and computer equipment as well, Murray added.

Two suspects, aged 13 and 18, were arrested at the scene and face charges of mischief and breaking and entering. Additional Youth Criminal Justice Act charges are also being recommended against the 18-year-old for allegedly violating court-imposed conditions.

The nature of the conditions is not being disclosed at this time, Murray said.

The investigation is continuing with assistance from the Port Alberni RCMP Forensic Identification Section. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at 250-723-2424.
